37: Aware: Dr. Dan Siegel on the Bridge Between Science and Consciousness, Presence and Spirituality

Dr. Dan Siegel episode 37.JPG

In episode 37, Aaron talks with Dr. Dan Siegel about his newest book, Aware: The Science and Practice of Presence. Dr. Siegel walks us through the science behind building our awareness and expanding consciousness, starting with a central question in his book: What is the mind?

They also discuss the importance of parenting from presence, building empathy and compassion, the impact of awareness on the body, and liberating ourselves from social expectations. We even learn that developing awareness actually slows the aging process!

Dr. Siegel shares stories of how different people are using the practice of the Wheel of Awareness—including a Kindergarten teacher.

After this episode was recorded, Aaron lent Dr. Siegel’s book, Aware, to a friend who later told Aaron that it changed his life!

This episode is a practical and inspiring guide to building our capacity for presence in our lives. Make sure to check out the show notes for links to free resources so you can try out guided meditations and the Wheel of Awareness yourself.

Enjoy the show!

“Integration made visible is kindness and compassion. So when we bring integration into consciousness, we create a kinder and more compassionate world and that’s something we all can do together.”
— Dr. Dan Siegel
